Working in the milieu often means engaging with individuals who are reluctant, resistant, or ambivalent about services. This interactive workshop explores how to build trust and connection in structured environments by focusing on relationship, understanding barriers to engagement, and learning everyday ways to bolster engagement. Participants will learn practical strategies for approaching resistance as a form of communication, apply trauma-informed care principles to everyday interactions, and strengthen their ability to use motivational interviewing techniques in the moment. Through case examples and skills practice, participants will leave with concrete tools for fostering engagement, reducing power struggles, and supporting client autonomy.
